Laboratory Investigations
Laboratory InvestigationsAn overall 21,538 laboratory tests were carried during 2010 leading to 101% achievement compared to the annual target of 21,300 total tests. Overall laboratory tests decreased from 24,315 tests in 2009 to 21,538 tests in 2010, 11.4% decrease, this was attributed to inadequate funding of laboratory activities and lack of supply of hematology reagents. Also there were more people diagnosed with malaria and HIV. Malaria alone accounted for 40.1% of overall 21,538 tests carried out with (3,897) people testing positive. HIV accounted for 9.0% of overall tests done. Note: This year KCCC laboratory was ranked as the 2nd best performing laboratory in the country by the National TB and Leprosy program.
