In the year 2010, the clinic registered a total of 230 new TB patients. This was a 117% achievement compared to an annual target of 197 patients. 50.8% of new TB patients are males, TB is more prevalent among males, and most of them walk in when they are very ill and weak. This year the clinic registered a significant increase of 54.3% in the number of new TB patient compared to 149 new TB patients enrolled in 2009. Of the 230 newly enrolled TB patients 73% were co-infected with HIV. It is concerning that most TB patients visiting the clinic are HIV positive. This year KCCC installed a separate TB unit in the laboratory; this has reduced risks of accidents and the vulnerability of its Lab staff to TB infection unlike before. |
