Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) Program |
In 2004 KCCC launched the implementation of the ART program aimed at relieving, pain and pro-longing lives among People Living with HIV/AIDS in resource limited settings. The project provides treatment for opportunistic infection, laboratory investigations, provision of ARVs, counseling and testing, OVC psychosocial support, HIV prevention under the AB and Faithful House curriculums, TB screening and treatment, pediatric care, PMTCT, and home based care to weaker patients.
By the end of December 2010 a cumulative number of 9,219 HIV patients were enrolled in care of those 6,030 were females, and 2,918 were males both aged 15 years and above, like wise 156 were females and 115 were males both aged 0-14 years. The cumulative number of patients ever enrolled in care increased from 8,329 patients in 2009 to 9,219 patients in 2010 (10.6% increase). The clinic enrolled a total of 351 new patients on Anti Retroviral treatment Therapy (ART) by the end of November 2010 leading to 85.8% achievement compared to the annual target of 409 new patients. ART enrollment increased from 293 patients in 2009 to 351 in 2010, this was a 19.7% increase. |
